Since there is so much suspicion, I am reformatting it with Big Sur, and hopefully that will work. These T7's get really hot - so its really hard to say if Monterey did something or not. I'm not sure if the T7 was moved too much, and I'm not good with ejecting it at night like I'm supposed to. The T7 is supposed to work for about five years. I had to fiddle around with the T7 all day, to try to erase and reformat it. But less than year later, the T-7 got funky one night and my Mac stopped working. I think of it as another Mac brain, but it sits on my desk. Push the option key upon start up and you have yourself a new Mac. Eventually I also loaded in my files, and my programs. I connected it and went through the process of downloading an operating system on it - Monterey. Keeping my budget in mind, I bought a solid state a new external Samsung T-7 drive. The machine couldn't handle it and became way too slow. I made the mistake of upgrading the operating software to Big Sur. Still not good, but with the firmware updated the Sabrent enclosure now works again. I was hoping today's 12.2 update would repair this problem, which it sort of did by giving me an error message but mounting the disk anyways. Both methods worked independently, though it's still a mystery why Big Sur and prior OS's were fine with the older Sabrent firmware. TLDR Apple changed something in Monterey and now some(jmicro and sabrent is what i have) external SSD's in enclosures no longer work, and will corrupt all data upon being plugged in!!!įollowed some advice in the comments and tried an OWC enclosure as well as updating the Sabrent firmware. Had to run recovery software to get a year's worth of work back, and it's all cluttered up now and not entirely intact. My coworker plugged hers into a freshly updated Monterey 2018 iMac and got an error message. Works perfectly on Big Sur and others, have worked for years. Long story short, Sandisk and Samsung SSD's in a Sabrent enclosure.
